Great pics Frank! The pictures from Rome reminded me of my trip there back in ‘84 with Bishop Curtis. It was my first time in a plane-and where did I go? On a transatlantic flight to Rome! I loved Italy, and I know I’ll go back there someday.

Hello Everyone! This is a comment on one of Fr. Chip’s homilies he gave this past week. It had to do with a movie he saw recently. While Fr. Chip made a few good points, I feel that, based on what Hollywood is putting out there these days, most movies are not worth the money that’s spent on them. The last movie I went to see was “The Passion of Christ.” Hollywood really needs to clean up their act, before I go out to the movies again!
The same goes for television; there really isn’t much on the boob tube to watch. If it were up to me, I’d cancel my subscription with Cablevision-but Mom likes to watch reruns of just about everything in TV Land!
I believe that a lot of the problems in our society today have to do with what people are seeing on TV and in the movies, and are influenced in a negative way by the sex and violence that comes blaring at us, even in the commercials.
I recently signed a petition to the FCC, that would allow us to choose which type of programming we would like to have in our cable package, rather than being dictated to by the cable company as to what you are going to get.
Optimum has been calling me incessantly, trying to sell me their 3-in-1 package, that they’ve been advertising at a rate that only lasts for a year-then goes up!
I asked the customer service rep if I would be able to choose the channels I would want in my package, she said “no”. I also asked her if Cablevision had plans of giving their customers the option of choosing their own programming, she said “no” again. To which I replied, “Then neither do I care to purchase your 3-in-1 package deal.”
From an ethical standpoint, we need to ask ourselves, do we really believe what we read in the Bible and in the Catechism of the Catholic Church, enough to let Hollywood and the cable companies know how we feel? Or, are we willing to just sit there and continue to watch the stuff they’re putting out there in our faces?
It’s our choice to make.
